511 is a toll free phone service that gives you up-to-the-minute, accurate information about road conditions, traffic problems, highway construction projects, and more. It also provides information about alternative ways to travel (without a car) that can help you save money, reduce stress, and protect the environment.



Live traffic cameras are updated in real time. Emergency road conditions are updated as soon as the Traffic Operations Centers or Virginia State Police learn of an incident. Other information, such as upcoming construction projects or transit schedule changes, is updated as soon as the VDOT Traffic Operations Centers are notified.
