Who We Are

Rockbridge Area Relief Association (RARA) provides financial aid to those in need, on a case-by-case basis.  Essential transportation may be provided.  Other forms of help may be in the form of food, past due payment of electricity, water, gas, oil and/or heat bills, internet fees, or help with rent or rent deposit.  RARA does not help with the purchase of clothing, prescriptions, medications, or phone bills. Money is not paid directly to a client.

Assistance to recipients is expected to be a one-time occurrence. A food pantry is also operated which can be visited monthly by those in need. Need is determined by income and other situations such as sickness or loss of employment. 

RARA may also refer individuals to other help agencies.

Intake Process
Must have exhausted all other available sources of fuel assistance resources, have a disconnection notice and demonstrate either a personal/family crisis or income-eligibility; resident of Rockbridge County or cities of Buena Vista and Lexington. Telephone requests for assistance require verification of need with vendors. Complete application. Each application is reviewed on a case by case basis.
