Who We Are

Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living, Inc. (CVACL) offers Dial a Ride, medical transportation for people over 60; and New Freedom Transportation for adults aged 21 and older living with a disability.  Bedford Ride, a Volunteer Program serving Bedford County provides medical transportation to non-emergency medical services on a first-come-first-serve basis.

For Medical transportation, wheelchair-accessible vans are available, and you will be given door through door assistance. Transportation is provided on a first-come-first-serve basis for appointments between 9:00 am and 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday, except for agency Holidays. Currently, no “On Demand” transportation is available.

People who are 60 or older and those between the ages of 18-59 who currently receive Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and reside in the City of Lynchburg, and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell and Bedford.

Intake Process
All transportation programs begin with an assessment. After contacting the intake specialist at 434-385-9070, you will be assigned to a case manager. The case manager will contact you within 15 business days to schedule a time to assess your needs, ensure you are eligible for the service, and enroll you in the program. Once you have been approved, you can schedule a ride at least one week in advance.
