Blue Ridge Hospice's Music Therapy is the use of live music by professionally trained, board-certified music therapists (MT-BC) in their care for people living with advanced illnesses. Research provides support for music therapy to increase the quality of life, alleviate spiritual suffering, provide pain management, and promote relaxation in end-of-life care.
Music therapists are an integral part of the hospice interdisciplinary team (nurses, social workers, certified nursing assistants, chaplains, bereavement counselors, physicians, and volunteers) who work to develop and provide the best care possible for each patient.
Other music therapy services include:
- Facilitate music workshops for hospice and the community at large.
- Provide live music for remembrance gatherings and events.
- Offer music for funeral and memorial services for hospice patients.
- Conduct in-services for community organizations.
- Conduct outreach groups in conjunction with bereavement departments for community facilities, centers, and schools.
