Who We Are

The Administrative Office for the Nelson County Department of Social Services provides information on programs and services that promote self-reliance and protection through the provision of community-based services and help families meet basic needs.



Numerous programs are available to qualified individuals such as Food Stamps, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Cardinal Care Medicaid State & Local Hospitalization, General Relief, Energy Assistance, Foster Care, Adult Services, and Child Protective Services. Implement the Virginia Independence Program Virginia Initiative for Employment, not Welfare (VIEW Program). Administers Federal Programs. { 24 hrs/7 days/week emergency coverage for Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services and Foster Care}
