Who We Are

Fairfax County Department of Family Services determines Cardinal Care.  Cardinal Care Medicaid is the federally funded medical care program for Virginia individuals who are elderly, blind, disabled, dependent children, and pregnant women. The program offers medical coverage for doctor visits, emergency room visits, hospitalization, prescriptions, medical supplies and equipment, nursing home costs, and home health care. The level and scope of coverage vary.

To be eligible, individuals must meet income and resource requirements. Supplemental Security Income recipients are generally eligible for full coverage. Aged, blind and disabled individuals with incomes less than 80 percent of the federal poverty level may also be eligible for full coverage. Pregnant women and children under the age of 19 may be eligible if their income is less than 133 percent of the federal poverty level. Medicare Part A recipients with income less than 120 percent of the federal poverty level may also be eligible for limited services based on income and resources.

You may apply by mail, online or by coming into the office. Documentation required: Photo ID, proof of income, proof of the number of dependents, proof of residency, social security card, and proof of resources. Bus Line: Metrobus.
