Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. They are coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers, and managers. They can also be Unified partners - playing alongside athletes with intellectual disabilities - or fans cheering in the stands.
You can help out for a one-day event or coach at a weekly practice site throughout a season. Year-round organizational support is always needed. Types of volunteers include head coaches and assistant coaches - seasonal, unified partners - volunteers who play alongside Special Olympics athletes on teams - seasonal, support personnel - volunteers who assist individual athletes during practices - seasonal, special event coordinator - seasonal, special event volunteer - single day, officials/referees - single day, administrative - throughout the year, and fundraising - throughout the year.
