Who We Are
The Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) Light Rail in Norfolk (The Tide) extends 7.4 miles from the Eastern Virginia Medical Center complex east through downtown Norfolk to Newtown Road at the border of Virginia Beach. It is served by 11 stations and four park-and-ride lots. Parking is free. Individuals who need to access the Right of Way of the Tide Light Rail System must successfully complete Track Access Safety Training facilitated by HRT Light Rail Operations.
Schedule information, as well as fare information, can be found on the website. Tickets can be purchased at all ticket vending machines, at select retail outlets, and online. All HRT vehicles, except light rail, are equipped with electronic fare boxes. Fare boxes accept cash, coins, and GoPasses. Fare boxes and/or vehicle operators cannot make change, so please have the exact fare when boarding. All sales are final. HRT does not give refunds on any purchases
Passengers with disabilities or Medicare card holders are eligible to ride at a discounted rate when an HRT Half Fare Identification card, Americans with Disabilities Act certification card, or a valid Medicare card and photo identification are displayed. Youth (under age 18) are eligible to ride at a discounted rate when a valid driver’s license, or state-issued or current school identification card with a photo is displayed. Older adults are eligible to ride at a discounted rate when an HRT Half Fare Identification card or government-issued photo identification card with proof of age is displayed.
