Who We Are

The Albemarle/Charlottesville Health Department works in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Health’s Division of Surveillance and Investigation (DSI) to provide surveillance, investigation, and follow-up of communicable diseases that are reportable by medical providers and laboratories.

This includes:

  • Community outreach, education, and in-service trainings
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) treatment, counseling, and referral
  • HIV and Hepatitis C testing
  • Childhood and adult immunizations, counseling, and referral
  • Initial health assessment of all newly arriving immigrants with refugee or asylum status through the Virginia Newcomers Health Program (VNHP)
  • TB case management with daily observed therapy
  • Rabies-related services
