Who We Are
The Norfolk Department of Health offers Environmental Health Services to reduce the incidence of environmental conditions which may adversely impact the health, safety and well being of the residents of Norfolk.
Staff provides permits and inspections for facilities visited by the public such as food service establishments, hotels/motels, tattoo parlors, public swimming pools, and camp grounds. They also assist with rodent and mosquito control, rabies testing and education, and the investigation of environmental health hazards and nuisances.
Lead poison blood level determination testing is also available. There is a fee for those able to pay but free for children. The staff will also test lead sources in the environment, in homes, and in industry.
Water testing and waste water need monitoring on a regular basis especially with private wells, swimming pools, marina sanitation and septic systems.
