Who We Are
The Lee County Health Department, part of the Lenowisco Health District, offers Environmental Health services which include inspection of public restaurants, school cafeterias, licensed day-care providers, hospital cafeterias, and temporary food service units, migrant camps and tourist establishments. Permits for wells and sewage drainfields must be obtained and inspected after installed, sometimes on an annual basis.
Rabies prevention is promoted and in the case where a person was exposed, the health department evaluates the animal and the incident and makes available the vaccine on a sliding fee scale for income-eligible residents.
Lead inspectors respond to reports of elevated blood lead levels in children and work to determine the source of exposures and offer remedies to prevent further harm.
The department investigates any environment complaint and illnesses reported to the health department. Identification and testing of the potential source in food and water are conducted in order to locate and eliminate the cause of the illness. Education of the public is provided to minimize risk of future outbreaks.
