Who We Are

Buckingham County Health Department, part of Piedmont Health District, provides public health services regardless of economic status, age, race, or sex. Available services include but are not limited to: adult immunizations such as influenza, pneumonia, tetanus, and other infectious diseases; health education for individuals and groups on healthy lifestyle behaviors such as nutrition, physical activity, weight control, diabetes, breast cancer, heart disease, and smoking cessation; blood pressure screening; HIV/AIDS/STD confidential testing.  Health Department staff monitor, investigate, treat and educate the community on communicable diseases such as foodborne, waterborne, and other infectious diseases; they can also screen Medicaid clients for nursing home placement.

Environmental health services involve well, sewage and septic permits, and education and testing for animals suspected of infectious diseases such as rabies and West Nile virus.  Please visit the website for more information.
