Who We Are
At the Norfolk Community Services Board, the goal of the Assessment, Coordination and Treatment Services Program, known as ACTS, is to provide appropriate services both during placement and post-release to try to reduce the incidence of recidivism. Both a therapist and case manager are housed at the Norfolk Detention Center in an effort to identify youth with significant mental health or substance abuse disorders.
Since detention placement is generally short-term in nature, staff will work simultaneously with each youth who is referred and in need of services through the program. Both the therapist and a case manager will be involved in the development of the youth’s treatment plan, and each will be responsible for specific interventions. As the therapist provides intensive counseling, the case manager will begin to connect with the youth’s family and community providers prior to release back into the home and community. This will facilitate the planning and scheduling of the follow-up treatment that is necessary for a successful transition.
