Who We Are

Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services, provides medical care, psychiatric treatment, supportive services and counseling for individuals with mental illness, 65 years of age and up.  Admission to the hospital is generally through emergency room and  Community Service Board recommendation and Temporary Detention Orders.  The hospital does not  take private, walk-in admissions. 

For information about financial assistance regarding treatment provided by Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, please contact the Reimbursement Office.  Staff can explain coverage and work with patients to establish benefits and determine ability pay.  You may also contact your local Community Services Board (CSB) or visit their website.
