Who We Are
The George Washington (GW) University Hospital's emergency room operates 24-hours/7 days/week and is verified as a Level 1 trauma care center. Trauma surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, trauma-trained nurses, anesthesiologists and operating room personnel are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to evaluate and treat any injury.
Through the ONE-CALL GW Patient Transfer Center, tertiary level support is offered to surrounding hospitals that seek advice, or help in the management of severely injured or critically ill patients. Transport for patients can be arranged as requested by a referring physician or hospital.
The Emergency Room's FastTrack program helps minimize wait times for patients by managing exam room availability, registering patients at the bedside and expediting test results. This streamlined process allows doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to better collaborate and deliver care that has been tailored for each patient.
