Who We Are
HUD's mission is a decent, safe, and sanitary home and suitable living environment of every American: fighting for fair housing; increasing affordable housing and homeownership; reducing homelessness; promoting jobs and economic opportunity; empowering people and communities and restoring the public trust.
Some of HUD's primary programs are: Housing for the elderly and person with disabilities. Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to help communities with economic development, job opportunities and housing rehabilitation.
Rental assistance in the form of Section 8, House Choiced Voucher certificates or vouchers for low-income households.
Subsidized public housing for low-income persons.
Homeless assistance in a continuum of care, through local communities and non-profit organizations, Emergency Shelter Grants and Housing Opportunity for Peoples include AIDS.
HOME Investment Partnership Act block grants to develop and support affordable housing.
Fair Housing education and enforcement.
Mortgage and loan insurance for single family homeownership, multi-family rental and elder-care facilities.
