Who We Are
The Tazewell County Health Department offers prevention, investigation, and control of communicable diseases. This service involves screening, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of all persons exposed to specific diseases such as tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS, foodborne illnesses, and more. Information is given regarding prevention from exposure, recognizing symptoms, and obtaining treatment. Tuberculin skin test, free in some instances, chest x-rays, evaluation, monitoring of TB cases, and contacts are provided. An anonymous HIV Counseling and Testing Clinic is also offered. Information on medication and other assistance is available for low-income persons.
