Environmental Health

Buchanan County Health Department provides a wide variety of environmental health services such as sewage disposal systems (applications, permits, and onsite evaluations for sewage disposal systems), applications and evaluations for private wells, and referrals for other water problems. Environmental Health staff also conduct routine food establishment inspections as required by state law, including temporary and permanent establishments. They provide information and follow-up for possible human exposure to rabies. Consultation with health care providers and assistance in appropriate post-exposure treatment is available. Information is also provided on radon, radon detection, and radon prevention.
