Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

Solutions That Empower People (STEP), Inc. provides free tax preparation services.  The free tax preparation service is available to families earning less than $54,000 annually.  Trained and certified volunteers file simple returns electronically.   Volunteers can help take advantage of Earned Income Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit.   

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is available at the Rocky Mount office and Stuart office beginning the first of February until the April filing date.  All services are free. 

Those who want to prepare their tax returns need to bring a picture ID, social security cards for all taxpayers and dependents, and all tax related documents such as W-2.  They should also bring a copy of their last year’s tax return if possible.
