Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center

Western State Hospital (WSH), part of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services system (DBHDS), provides care for residents of the Commonwealth with serious behavioral or substance use disorders within an integrated and collaborative service system which involves linkage with consumers, families and community health care providers.



Adults must be prescreened by a local behavioral health center. The hospital offers Medicare-certified coed services including acute psychiatric treatment or stabilization for patients age 18 and older. The service concentrates on treatment and evaluation designed to return the patient to the community within six weeks.
