Who We Are

This program serves children from birth through age 17 experiencing problems and disruption in their home, school, or community due to emotional disturbance or substance use. The goal is to provide treatment to support optimal functioning and to maintain the child in the community or least restrictive environment. Services include individual, family, and group counseling, play and expressive art therapies Dialectical Behavior Therapy, case management, crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and discharge planning from state and private mental hospitals with linkage to community services. Also, therapy services are provided to detainees at Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center.

Intake Process
Call the Access Center or walk in at The Burrell Center, located at 611 McDowell Avenue, Roanoke, Virginia 24016. Children and youth may walk-in for screening without an appointment between 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. There are extended walk-in hours for children and youth intakes on Tuesdays until 4:30 PM. The children and youth entrance to the Access Center is on the left side of the main Burrell Center building, highlighted by a Children’s Access Center sign. The adult entrance remains through the main Burrell doors in the center of the building.
