Who We Are

The American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry is a national association representing and serving its members and the field of geriatric psychiatry. It is dedicated to promoting behavioral health and well being of older people and improving the care of those with late-life behavioral disorders. AAGP's mission is to enhance the knowledge base and standard of practice in geriatric psychiatry through education and research and to advocate for meeting the behavioral health needs of older Americans.

Advocacy efforts included the adoption of the Association's Legislative and Regulatory Agenda which articulates the public policy goals of the organization throughout the 111th Congress and testimony to the U.S. House of Representatives for FY 2012 Appropriations for Mental Health Research and Services.
